The Banquet for
Sir Harold Ridley
at the Science Museum, London
On the evening of
29th November 1999, a Gala Banquet was given to honour the
then Mr Harold Ridley who invented the intraocular lens which
has saved the eyesight of
over 200 million people throughout the world. That date being
the
50th anniversary of the first intraocular lens operation.
The banquet was
attended by many eminent eye surgeons from all over the globe.
Sir Harold received
his Knighthood in the new year honours, 2000
Angela and I were greatly honoured to be there at
the invitation of Rayners Intraocular Lenses Ltd. who
pioneered the manufacture of the invention and helped in its early
development.
