The story is about a German
pilot who, having belly-landed his
Messerschmitt 109, was given a lift by a young man, who took him
home to
mum where the pilot was given dad's dinner before being arrested.
Above: That's me with the
chunk of 109. It is one of the underwing
radiator air scoops, ... somewhat crushed!
The unguarded aeroplane was subsequently reduced to
scrap by gangs of boys and adults who carried off and
hid their souvenirs. I have been lucky to discover a man, who
as one of those boys, 'liberated' a large chunk and
has secretly kept it until now.
Another man has shown me a piece of elevator fabric and
I have heard a rumour of where to find an entire wing!

This piece of elevator fabric (approx 8"
wide) was taken the day after the crash. It was shown to me by
its
current owner who now has it framed.
