Photos and info: Discovery of swastika from the fin of a Messerschmitt 109 and a mystery radial engine from the sea

 

I have just discovered someone who's grandfather took the swastika emblem from the Bowcombe Messerschmitt.

Lance Corporal "Tiffy" Burden was a civvy articifer attached to the REME at Parkhurst during WW2.
Whenever he heard of a downed German plane, he was there. The Bowcombe Messerschmitt was too much to
resist so, with hammer and chisel he 'acquired' the tail fin swastika. It is now a prized possession of
his grandson Richard who keeps it carefully wrapped for posterity.
