"Quite-Contrary Mary"
Prints and story of First Officer Mary Wilkins of the
Air Transport Auxiliary who flew 400 Spitfires and
over seventy different warplanes during WW2

Prints from the painting by John Howard Worsley.

Mary Wilkins was still a teenager when she joined ATA. Her duties were to deliver new and repaired aircraft to
the Royal Air Force including many twin engined bombers. She also flew as co-pilot in Sterling bombers.
These were huge planes with the main landing wheels taller than she was!
Mary is now living near Sandown Airport on the Isle of Wight, an aerodrome at which
she became commandant in the years after the war.
